Blogging and Online Businesses
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Debi_Smith]Debi Smith
Blogging and Home based business always goes together like apple pie and ice cream. BUT, what we are not always told is that blogging and online business is a lot of work. Do not let anyone try to let you believe that you can make a lot of money in a short amount of time when you first get started with blogging. It takes a lot or time and hard work to get your blog built, set up and populated to get ready to start sending out your product information. You first have to have a field in which you are very interested in. I mean you have to be passionate enough to want to spend hours writing about it and searching products that go along with it.
Then comes the time you will want to pull your hair out. You have to have enough good information that makes everyone want to get all you have to offer. When this is done you have to start gathering "TRAFFIC", this is when I wanted to run out into TRAFFIC because no one told me how hard this was going to be. So put all the fast MILLIONS out of your head and get ready to work very hard for what you want for you and your family. Their are many sites to visit to find out a lot about blogging but one of the best people to turn to is Jimmy D. Brown. He is very informative and gives you a lot of step by step guidelines to follow. So be very hard headed as to whom you listen to and always first do your own research. Now go out and get busy and above all have fun and believe in yourself. You can do this.

Blogging For Home Based Internet Marketing Businesses
Blogging For Home Based Internet Marketing Businesses
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tellman_Knudson]Tellman Knudson
Blogs are awesome tools for people with home based internet marketing businesses...a way for you to keep in touch with your market or niche, build your list, and make money. There are a couple key factors that you really have got to keep in mind when you are starting to blog in order to have it work for you.
Stick to your niche
Once you have picked your niche and created your blog then you want to stick with it on every post. I mean, you have some flexibility here...but you really have to write things that relate to your market or you are going to lose them!
So, if your niche is dog training don't start blogging about cats...unless you are talking about training your dog to relate well to cats, or something!
Post daily
It is really, really important that you post to your blog on a regular basis. I recommend you post daily. Get in that habit of communicating with your market-train them that you can be relied on to provide new content all the time.
If people go to your blog and hardly ever see new stuff...well, they are going to lose interest really quick.
To make money blogging you really have to be on people's minds...and you do that by communicating with them on a regular basis.
Be interesting
Your posts don't have to be long, but they have got to be interesting. Give valuable content. Be different. Be fun. Be yourself. It isn't a writing contest...the "grade" you will get is the number of readers you have...and believe me, they are way more interested in the content than the grammar!
I cannot overstate this point! You can actually make some good money...I mean there are people out there making $5,000-$20,000 a month just with AdSense...because they are interesting and readers keep coming back!
It is okay to be controversial
This goes with being interesting...but it is different enough to deserve extra attention. Realize you are never going to appeal to everybody out there. Not even in a very narrow niche. So be willing to take a stand. Give your opinions...be true to yourself. Will some people not like it? Sure...but others will love it.
Listen, don't be rude about it...although there are people who have been successful that way, too, I don't suggest it. But there is nothing wrong with stirring up some controversy. Be on the cutting edge...get a conversation going and you will have more traffic and links to your blog.
List building
If you are going to make money just from AdSense then maybe you don't have to worry about building a list...but I think that would be a mistake! You have traffic interested in a specific topic, right? So start list building!
Even if you don't think you will ever need a list...you just never know! Maybe you will have a product in that niche down the road. Start building your list now so that you can take advantage of it later.
By building your list you have maximum flexibility and control about where you can take your business in the future!
So, start a blog...write posts that are interesting to your niche...and do that on a regular basis. And don't forget to be building your list! Do these things and blogging will be a great asset to your home based internet marketing businesses!

How to Make Money Online With Blogs - Getting Traffic to My Blog
How to Make Money Online With Blogs - Getting Traffic to My Blog
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tellman_Knudson]Tellman Knudson
A lot of times when people are learning how to make money online and they hear that blogging is a great way to do that, they get confused about how that is going to work. It seems that the biggest question with beginners to the internet...and beginning bloggers is how to get traffic to the blog. Just like any other web site, there are several ways to get traffic.
Let the search engines know
Search engines love blogs because of the unique content...and that the content is changing all the time. Every time you post you have created new content.
That's great...but you have to send a signal to the search engines that you put out that content. You let the search engines know you have new stuff by "pinging"-basically the equivalent of waving a big red flag that says "I'm here!"
Search engines may find your content eventually if you are writing good stuff, but give yourself-and your blog-a fighting chance and get that attention sooner by pinging.
List building
One of the easiest ways to get traffic is to focus on list building. You can do that through squeeze pages or opt-in forms on your blog...all your usual list building tools.
Email your existing list when you have a super cool blog post. They will read it and post comments and maybe even link to it from their blogs.
Driving traffic
You can also drive traffic to your blog through some traditional methods and linking back to your blog. In other words, anything that you would do to drive traffic to a squeeze page or web site, you can do to get visitors to your blog.
Press releases
Articles
Podcasts
Teleseminars
Google AdWords
Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook
Personally, rather than spending tons of time on that I would focus on using your blog as something that gets indexed with search engines. As you get better and better at writing to your audience and showing up in search engines in a relevant and interesting format more people will find you. Then, over time they will link back to you.
Bottom line for people who want to know how to make money online-use blogs and some simple tools to get traffic to your blog. This will get you set up in a great circle of more and more readers...a bigger list...and let you make more and more money online.

Celebration of 80th Annivesary of the Tulip Time Festival Parade
Celebration of 80th Annivesary of the Tulip Time Festival Parade
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rachel_Madorsky]Rachel Madorsky
Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan is the official celebration of one of the largest Dutch ethnic events in the Midwest United States. Residents of Holland proudly celebrate their Dutch heritage with a famous American festival known as Tulip Time.
I decided to write this article after being inspired by a small unit of Veterans of Vietnam War that participated in the Meijer Muziekparade.
We were lucky to be in Holland, Michigan this year to participate in the celebration of eightieth anniversary of the Tulip Time Festival Parade with over 500,000 people in attendance. It was named "Best Small Town Festival" by Readers Digest, listed among the "Top 100 Events in North America" by ABA, and featured in the book Amazing Places to Go in North America.
This year, the first Tulip Time parade (Volksparade) was held on May 6, the second (Kinderparade) on May 7, and last (Muziekparade, which we visited) on May 9.
The idea to adopt the tulip as the official flower of Holland and celebrate it with a festival was born at one of the Woman's Literary Club meeting in 1927 following a suggestion by Miss Lida Rogers, a biology teacher at Holland High School. The next year, the City Council purchased 100,000 tulip bulbs from the Netherlands and planted them in city parks and other areas. In the spring of 1929, thousands of tulips bloomed, and the annual festival was born. In the mid 1930s, Tulip Time already was nationally known. Many famous names like Dorothy Lamour, Pat O'Brien, Christina Aguilera, Verve Pipe, Jars of Clay, and George Raft participated at the festival.
After World War II, Tulip Time continues to attract thousands of tourists every year. In 1947, the Netherlands showed appreciation to the Holland community, which provided aid to their country after the war. The people of Amsterdam presented to Holland a working street organ called "Car Frei Breda," which today entertains Windmill Island visitors. In that same year began a long tradition of a visit from the governor of Michigan, who leads the street scrubbing ceremonies.
Despite poor weather conditions, this year's Muziekparade started almost on time. I was amazed with the participation of numerous marching units - around 60. Even though Holland, Michigan is not a hugely populated community (population around 35,000 residents), the Meijer Muziekparade could be compared with parades of large cities from my point of view.
The parade was so well organized that it captured attention of bystanders sitting and staying along street. It was really a spectacular parade. Units represented numerous organizations, schools, bands, dancing clubs, wagons, small and large businesses, different clubs, or social groups. There were antique automobiles followed by horses, fire department, police, military academy, Michigan Air National Guard, Holland Hockey Association, United States Marine Corps band, and others. Tulips were displayed on most of the cars and trucks and carried in bouquets by participants.
Some of the parade participants included US Senator Carl Levin, US Representative Pete Hoekstra, State Senators Wayne Kuipers and Patricia Birkholz, and Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land, as well as other notables. Some of came from different states of the USA to participate in the Meijer Muziekparade, and all appeared honored to participate.
However, some of the most unforgettable participants who were hailed by the crowds may not even be known by name. While taking pictures, I heard from distance a loud applause - louder than any applause up to that time. Soon, I noticed a small group in military uniform. It was the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 73, presented by seven marching men and one in a wheelchair. The spectators showered them with enthusiastic applause.
Holland celebrates its Dutch heritage not only with the Tulip Festival, but also with over six million tulips as well. Also, in 1976 Holland received impressive publicity by participating in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Manchester International Festival 2009 Hits Town in July With Elbow, Damon Albarn & Kraftwerk
Manchester International Festival 2009 Hits Town in July With Elbow, Damon Albarn & Kraftwerk
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michelle_Elkins]Michelle Elkins
As festivals go, the Manchester International Festival is practically a masterpiece. Only just coming up for its' second outing, the festival has already amassed considerable credibility, attention and praise both here and abroad. First launched in 2007, the biennial event is set to burst forth once again with a host of original and inspiring performances from the fields of music, drama and art between Thursday 2nd July and Sunday 19th July 2009.
For those living further afield and for the international followers, Manchester Airport is close by. Several European and UK airports offer flights to Manchester including Edinburgh Airport, Heathrow Airport, Barcelona Airport and Malaga Airport. As the festival venues are spread out widely it may be handy to organise a Manchester Airport car hire, especially if this a first visit to the sprawling and cosmopolitan city with its' many tourist attractions. There are six hire firms based within Manchester Airport Arrivals and these are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.
The festival´s major hook is that it is the world´s first to comprise solely brand new work and arrangements using leading artists. Last time over 200,000 turned out to be amused and amazed and it is expected that that the figure will be larger this year. Several of the events are free but understandably the bigger scale productions are tickets only. Of these a major highlight will be the monster Mancunian collaboration between Mercury Prize winners Elbow and the Hallé, Britain's longest established symphony orchestra.
Possibly the most eagerly anticipated of the events though is likely to be "It Felt like a Kiss", created by Punchdrunk, Adam Curtis and Damon Albarn, who contributed massively to the first festival. This unusual production is promoted as a ghost story, where the ghouls represent the nefarious forces at work beneath the surface of the American dream. Spread over 5 floors of a disused building, the audience is led through a story which begins in 1959. It eerily contrasts the progression of music through the golden age of pop, including original compositions by Albarn, and the US rise in power using elements such as documentary and a fairground ghost train.
Likely to be another favourite is that put together by Grammy-nominated singer/song-writer Rufus Wainwright who has joined forces with director Daniel Kramer and conductor Pierre-André Valade to produce a tale about a once revered operatic soprano called "Prima Donna". Set in 1970, it is about the star's return to the spotlight after a 6 year absence and her attempt to try to beat the demons that originally ended her career. The lead role, Régine, is played by Janis Kelly and is supported by Opera North. Wainwright said inspiration came from sources such as the legendary Maria Callas and Sunset Boulevard.
Back by popular demand, extraordinary male ballet dancer, Carlos Acosta, considered to be the greatest of his generation, will be dancing again this year at the festival. His programme of dance will include Stravinsky´s classic "Apollo" choreographed by Balanchine and Debussy´s "Afternoon of a Faun" devised by Jerome Robbins, as well as a wholly new creation entitled "Young Apollo" by rising star choreographer, Adam Houghland. Accompanied by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and supported by a selection of talented dancers, each evening will see a dramatic intertwining of both classic and modern works.
On to a funkier note and hip hop legends De La Soul are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album 3 Feet High and Rising with a show at the festival that includes a ten-piece band and special guests. Also, from Friday 3rd July onwards, the specially designed Festival Pavilion gives people a place to meet, relax and be entertained for free by a range of the city´s best club DJs from Contort Yourself, Sweet Sensation, Phil Beckett, Dave Haslam, Natalie Brogan and Micron. There will be a bar dishing up food made from locally sourced ingredients and serving drinks late into the night.
If it all seems a bit too grown up, fear not, as gigs have been set up to cater for the younger generation. "Same Teens" is aimed solely at 15 to 19 year olds and will see DJ sets from Tim Burgess and Televised Crimewave combined with a host of support bands and headliners, Mystery Jets. Other highlights of the festival include performances from Kraftwerk, artist Marina Abramovic and the ironically named Young@ Heart Chorus.

Without doubt, the largest of all the mammals of the sea, weighing an approximate 20.9 tonnes and equivalent to the size of a bus, about 45ft long, that can live up to 150 years old. Whale Sharks are viviparous, (bringing forth young alive). Newborns are over 2 feet long and become sexually mature at 30 years of age.
The Whale Shark is harmless to us humans as they live on the plankton in the sea and will generally scoop up whatever comes too close, especially shoals of sardines and mackerel. Amazingly, they use a form of filtration which separates the plankton from the water (plus anything that gets in the way) by closing its mouth and forcing the water out via its gills and keeping the rest. The Whale Shark has a flattened head, blunt snout and barbels protruding from its nostrils. Rhincodon Typus, The Whale Shark, has sides and back that are grey to brown with white spots and horizontal and vertical pale stripes. This, along with its white belly and the rearward two dorsal fins and a large dual lobbed caudal fin or tail make it a formidable opponent.
Preferring warmer waters, the Whale Shark tends to populate the more tropical seas and then they tend to migrate to the continental shelf of Australia (central west coast) each spring. Spawning then begins around the Ningaloo Reef, ideal with ample amounts of plankton available.
Whilst venerable and threatened species, they are still hunted in many parts of the world, including Taiwan and the Philippines and are in danger of becoming extinct.
On the weekend of July 15th - 19th July , there is the Whale Shark Festival aimed at promoting the preservation of the fragile marine ecosystem, and the tracking of Shark Whales throughout the Yucatan Peninsula, will be held on Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico. This is one of the rare occasions that one can see these amazing creatures in their own environment and realise the awe of their existence.
Whale Sharks are solitary creatures. However for several years now they have come to the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula to feed and mate during the months of May through to October.
Ask around at the docks or downtown Isla Mujeres, for a local fisherman to take you on a boat trip to see the Whale Sharks; be prepared to spend five or six hours viewing these fabulous mammals.
During the Festival 15th - 19th July, Isla Mujeres welcomes thousands of visitors. To help you find your way around the Island and its facilities, please go to the following website http://www.islamujeres.co.uk

Sakura - Cherry Blossom Festival in Tokyo
Sakura - Cherry Blossom Festival in Tokyo
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Da_Jo]Da Jo
The visual beauty of the petals is extraordinary. They come in various shades of pink, and are illuminated gloriously in the evening.
Are you planning your Tokyo vacation in spring?
If so, you'll be able to take part in the national cherry blossom festival, probably one of the major Tokyo attractions.
The cherry is actually the national flower of Japan. It signifies the arrival of spring. Sakura also marks the beginning of the new academic year (Japanese school year starts in April), and the new financial year for business.
Cherry Blossom Festival Viewing
Hanami, the cherry blossom festival viewing, includes some great traditional activities. It's an important social event for Japanese people, an opportunity to celebrate, wind down, and generally fool around a bit. Friends and family picnic with food, beer, and hot sake (rice wine).
A very popular food eaten during Hanami is called Dango. It's a chewy snack made of rice flour.
In Tokyo, the Sakura season typically takes place around the end of March and beginning of April. On Japan's southern island Okinawa, it starts around January, while on the northern island - Hokkaido, as late as May.
To complicate it -the blooming time differs from year to year depending on the weather. If the weather during the months before the season is relatively mild, blossoms will open early. If it was cold, blossoms will open later.
The start of the Sakura blooming season can vary From year to year by as much as two weeks.
Every year, around this time, the weather forecasts include reports on the advance of the Sakura zensen (sakura front). The Meteorological Agency and the media follow the so called "blossom front" as it slowly proceeds.
The cherry Bloom Is Short.
Full bloom is usually reached within one week after the opening of the first blossoms.
A week later, the blooming peak is over and the blossoms are falling from the trees. Flowers are so fragile that a warm spring rain can easily cause the petals to fall.
This delicate beauty symbolizes purity and melancholy. Japanese poetry and literature are full of analogies to it.

Here you'll get the truth about Tokyo attractions - the real Tokyo information, unlike many official tourist or government websites, with their obvious interests.
Written by a westerner-turned-Japanese.
If this is the first time you're going to this magical destination, Tokyo tends to create somewhat of a culture shock. Japan is like no other country you have ever experienced. You're likely to be surprised.

Sun Peaks Icewine Festival - A Wine Masters Dream
Sun Peaks Icewine Festival - A Wine Masters Dream
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Devon_O'Malley]Devon O'Malley
How Does Icewine Differ From Other Wines?
Icewine is unique from other wines and spirits not only in taste, but also in its process of manufacture. The grapes in icewine are frozen on the vine in a temperature of approximately -8 degrees Celsius (17 °F) for about 36 hours before they are harvested and fermented. This is a very sensitive step in the production of icewine; if the grapes do not freeze fast enough, they could decompose. However, if the grapes become too frozen, juice cannot be extracted.
The renowned sweetness of the wine is dependent on the freezing process of the grapes. If executed correctly, the sugars and other dissolved solids in the grapes do not freeze, but the water does; this results in a more concentrated and sweeter tasting wine. Since the process of production is extremely complicated and laborious, icewine takes longer to manufacture, is more expensive and sold in smaller amounts than regular table wine.
Sun Peaks Icewine Festival
Sun Peaks Resort has hosted the Icewine Festival annually since 1998. Held typically in January, this 5 day affair was developed to attract guests to the resort after the holiday period. Since the beginning, the festival has proved to be a remarkable success attracting crowds of enthusiastic wine tasters and connoisseurs each year.
Since the event platforms icewines from the BC's top Okanagan wineries, it provides an excellent opportunity for local wineries to introduce their product and promote their business. Dairy Farmers of Canada are also often present at the wine festival hosting some of their own events. Guests can indulge in a variety of Aged Goudas, Blue Cheese and more while strolling throughout Sun Peaks village tasting icewine and other treats.
Past Icewine Festival agendas have included events such as:
Sun Peaks Wine & Dine
Taste of Sun Peaks
Al You Need is Cheese... for Dessert
Icewine & Nothing More
Sinful Chocolate & Heavenly Wine
Taste the Aromas of Coffee & Wine with Starbucks
The Sun Peaks Progressive Tasting
Medal Winners Tasting

Vishu Festival
Vishu Festival
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Prasad_Cheruvannur]Prasad Cheruvannur
Malayalees all over the world celebrate the Vishu as their new year. Since the mother tongue of the Kerala people is Malayalam, other people call them malayalees. This celebration is as per Malayalam calendar and usually falls on 14th or 15th of April. Some other Indian states also celebrate the same day as their new year. For Example Tamil Nadu celebrates the same day as Tamil New Year and Bengalis celebrate the day as Bengali New Year.
Traditions: Kerala astrologers are calculating Malayalam astrology as per rasi, which is calculated according to the position of sun related to the earth in different months. They will divide each year into different rasi as per sun's position. As per this calculation, sun enters into medam rasi by crossing equator on the 1st day of Medam month of regional Malayalam Calendar. Malayalees consider this day as New Year and celebrate it as vishu. It is important to note that this is not the first day of the Malayalam calendar. Malayalam calendar begins from chingam (August 14th or 15th). Since Hindus are strong believers of Astrology, astrologers will do lot of predictions for the coming year. All Malayalam newspapers will publish these predictions for each person as per their birth-dates and birth star. This prediction, which is prepared by leading astrologers of Kerala, is known as vishu phalam (predictions).
Vishu Celebrations: This festival celebrations usually start with Vishu kani. After the kani, there will be Fire crackers, kaineettam and sadhya. People of most other Indian states use firecrackers for Diwali. However, in Kerala, main use of firecrackers is for this festival to welcome the New Year. Lot of temporary firecracker stalls will be setup along the side of road.
Vishu Kani: Kani is the most important part for this festival. People believe that seeing kani, at the dawn of this day will bring luck and prosperity for the next year. Kani is normally set in a circular metal plate or in circular brass vessel known as uruli.
Hindus believe that whatever one see first in the morning will decide the luck for that day and call it as kani. The same way they believe that, the New Year should start with seeing good and lucky objects, to bring luck and prosperity for the whole year. Senior lady of the house will set kani on the preceding night, so that she can also see kani at the early morning of the day. The Vishu kani is made with auspicious items such as Rice, coconut, gold , money, new cloth, areca nut, betel leaves, fruits, vegetables like mangoes, yellow cucumber, and jack-fruit, along with the konna pove (Indian Laburnum). The entire above item will be set in the circular plate or in a uruli. Behind the kani plate, they will keep a mirror and a statue of garlanded Lord Krishna. She will also keep a Hindu prayer lamp called Nilavilakku, at the side of kani.
Kani Kanal:- In the early morning, senior lady of the house will get up and go directly to the room where she has kept the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishu]vishu kani. She will ignite the lamp Nilavilaku to see kani. Then she will take bath and will wake the other members of the house one by one by closing their eyes with her hands. She will guide them to the room where she has set the kani. Then she will remove her hands from their eyes so that they can see kani as the first thing on the morning. She will repeat this with every members of the house including kids. This tradition is kani kanal (Seeing Kani). After kani kanal all the kids and other junior members of house will get a small donation from their father, which is known as the vishu kaineettam. After kani kanal people will start bursting different firecrackers in front of the house.
Vishu sadhya:- Vishu sadhya is the lunch of the day and it is served in the afternoon. In southern part of Kerala. This is a traditional pure vegetarian lunch served in banana leaf, where as in northern Kerala (Malabar area) it is a special non-vegetarian lunch prepared with fish and goat meat served in Banana leaf.

Your Secret Guide to How to Win Lottery
Your Secret Guide to How to Win Lottery
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=BJ_Min]BJ Min
There is a need to know about the tricks relating to how to win lottery. There are several types of scratchers game available, all having different odds of winning. You should always pick those having the best odds. To do this you need to ask the store clerk about its odds before purchasing it. They will surely tell you about it as it is their duty to make you aware of the odds for the scratchers game.
Most of the scratcher players are absolutely clueless of the fact that a minor print at the back of the scratcher ticket reveals the odds of winning for that particular game. It shows two different types of odds. The first shows the odds of winning anything on the whole and the second one reveals the odds of winning prizes in dollars on the whole. Therefore you can now easily compare the odds before buying and not end up losing excessively.
Some less expensive games have much better odds of winning than the costlier ones and in certain cases there are also chances that the costlier the tickets get the better the odds become. You should only concentrate on the best odds and not on the colour or attractive title of the game. Certain scratchers have a fine white line either above or below the scratcher ticket. These are called the 'highlighted scratchers' and usually comes out to be the winners as compared to the regular ones. Therefore before buying the tickets you should always look for the white line.
Therefore it is advisable to always find out about the odds of the games and compare them with the rest and then play the ones having the best odds of winning. If you follow the above mentioned steps then you have learnt the rules of how to win lottery.

Playing Within Your Budget to Win the Lottery
Playing Within Your Budget to Win the Lottery
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tino_Sundin]Tino Sundin
Running a lottery is the perfect business. That's because when you have enough people playing, the lottery corporation knows almost exactly how much money the lottery will generate and how much it will have to pay out. It's all a statistics game and there's no way for the lottery corporation to lose money. That's why lottery corporations bring in billions in profits.
However, it is not so simple for lottery players. By spending just a few dollars a week playing the lottery, lottery players can statistically figure out how much they will pay out and win/lose, based on lottery odds, over their lifetimes. But, on a week-to-week basis, there's no way to do so. That's because playing a few tickets a week is not a statistically significant amount to calculate probability accurately.
Lottery players can, however, play within their budgets to slightly increase their odds of a higher payout for themselves. Here's how: If a lottery player plays a lottery with a rolling jackpot, like Powerball for example, they could shift their dollars spent on a week-to-week basis. It's easier to explain with an example. So for example, say a player spends $5 per draw on the lottery. In this case, she plays Powerball, which draws twice a week. Let's say that works out to 9 draws a month. That would equal $45 monthly budget for lotteries. Now, let's say that instead of playing $5 on every draw, she spends just $1 on every draw. That would be 9 draws at a dollar and, so, she would have $36 left over. Since the Powerball lottery has a rollover jackpot, she could now use the extra $36 to spend on one big jackpot each month. That would greatly increase her odds of winning the jackpot on that one big draw.
The player in the example used her budget to shift money spent on lotteries when the jackpot is small to more money spent when the jackpot is big. In the example, she still had the same monthly budget, but slightly increased her lifetime expected payout from playing the lottery because she spent more when the jackpot was big and less when the jackpot was small.
Tino writes about [http://www.lotterywinnerbios.blogspot.com]Lotto winners from around the world like, for example, [http://lotterywinnerbios.blogspot.com/2009/05/rebecca-jemison-wins-mega-millions.html]Rebecca Jemison, who won $162 million playing Mega Millions.

What an Earthquake Feels Like and What to Do When One Occurs
What an Earthquake Feels Like and What to Do When One Occurs
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Roy_Varni]Roy Varni
Having been born and raised in California and having lived there until 1970, I (alone or with my family) have felt a number of earthquakes. We have been fortunate, however, to have suffered no bodily harm or property damage from any of them other than, perhaps, some minor cracked plastered ceilings and walls.
There is a USGS website that lists all California earthquakes recorded since 1769 to the present. The site lists the dates and times as well as the magnitude and the exact location of any quake that measured more than 6.0 during all those years. There are only a few quakes that stand out vividly in my memory and, luckily, none is shown in the above named website. So, my personal experience with earthquakes might be considered insignificant.
Well, being there during a quake has never been insignificant to me. In my youth, both in the classroom and at home, it was scary when either place started to shake. All of us, whether young or old, seemed to share that instant fear that results when the ground beneath us begins to move and we can't do anything about it. Since I have no recollection of any dates of those tremors that I did experience in my youth, they were either "insignificant" or forgotten.
There are three eventful earthquakes that I , alone or in the company of one or more of my family, did experience. I remember them vividly - they are difficult to forget. The first was another one of those that did not make the USGS list of major earth movements in California. It was in 1955 and our oldest daughter who was then six years old was walking with me in our back yard in Redwood City. As the shaking intensified I held her to me with one arm as I held on to one of our fruit trees with the other. All three of us (my daughter and I, and the tree) wobbled back and forth for an almost interminable two or three minutes that to us felt like hours.
The second one was in 1963. Our entire family was visiting Disneyland in Southern California. The earth started to shake just as we were beginning to walk from our hotel toward the famous landmark. By the time we reached the entrance to Disneyland, a distance of only a few blocks, all the streets and sidewalks were awash from the water that had sloshed out of the many nearby hotel swimming pools as a result of the prolonged back and forth shaking.
My last experience with an earthquake was a lonely one during a religious retreat in San Juan Bautista, California. It was some time in the late sixties and I was alone in the old on site chapel. As the building, with its woodwork creaking, started to shake I quickly headed for the door to the outside. I remember saying a little prayer - something like, "Help me get out of here in time, Dear Heavenly Father. But, if I must go, what better place to finally meet you!"
If you are outside when the earth starts to shake, it would probably be safest to be in the middle of an empty parking lot. Little if anything could then drop on to you and hurt you. If not in a parking lot, and there is a tree nearby, grab it and hold on for dear life. Try to get as far away as possible from a brick building - especially an old one. If there are old brick buildings everywhere, then try to stand in a doorway of one of them with the hope that it will protect you from falling debris. If you are inside when the shaking begins, again stand in a doorway or crawl under a heavy piece of furniture like a dining room table. Under a bed with a good mattress is not the worst place to hide. These are my personal safety suggestions of what to do when the earth starts to shake. Our home is here in Juneau, Alaska which is located along a highly seismically active area called "The Ring of Fire" that, thankfully, has remained quiet all the years since 1970 when we first arrived in this most beautiful and peaceful place. So far, the only thing that has fallen on us has been the rain.

Earthquake Emergency - What To Do In Such A Situation?
Earthquake Emergency - What To Do In Such A Situation?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Abhishek_Agarwal]Abhishek Agarwal
In 1906, the residents of San Francisco, California, had an abrupt change of lifestyle. They learned that almost anything can happen without warning. An earthquake killed about 3,000 people and caused over $400 million in property damages. In 1920, the Gansu earthquake in China took about 200,000 lives. Then in 1948, the region around Ashgabat in the Soviet Union suffered a powerful quake that claimed over two-thirds of that city's population (110,000 people died).
About Earthquakes
The most powerful earthquake ever recorded happened in 1960 in Chile. Registering 9.5 on the Moment magnitude scale, it created a tsunami that swept the entire Pacific Ocean. In 1972, 90% of the city of Managua, Nicaragua, was destroyed by a midnight earthquake that killed over 10,000 people. Then in 1985, the Great Mexican Earthquake struck, killing as many as 30,000 people, most of whom were never found. In 1989, San Francisco and surrounding areas experienced the "World Series Quake."
In 2003, the Bam Citadel, the largest adobe structure in the world and built before 500 B.C. was almost completely destroyed, together with 70% of the city of Bam and 70,000 residents.
Most of them happen along what is known as the circum-Pacific seismic belt or the "Pacific Ring of Fire" bounding the Pacific tectonic plate. With high-population cities like Mexico City, Tehran, and Tokyo growing in areas of high risk, it is possible that a future earthquake could take as many as 3 million lives.
It's hard to understand why people insist on living in earthquake-prone areas like San Francisco and the mountains of central and South America. But in fact, earthquakes are a common phenomenon, small ones happening somewhere in the world every day. Characterized by shaking and ruptures in the land, earthquakes also cause dangerous avalanches and landslides, fires like the terrible 1906 San Francisco experience, soil liquefaction where buildings literally sink into the earth, and massive tsunamis. Because the damage they do is enduring, they also leave high risks for disease in their wake as people try to find potable water to drink and dry, safe places to sleep and live.
People who live in high-probability earthquake zones must live each day as it comes, knowing that their fragile lives could be over in an instant. Knowing that tragedy can strike at any time, they prepare for it.
Technology specialist Jason lives near the Marina, the most high-risk area in his city. He accepts graciously the fact that living there is a risk, but he always stores basic supplies for that inevitable crisis. He keeps several gallons of fresh water, portable food packs, extra flashlights and batteries, and several thing-a-magics that would overwhelm the technologically-challenged.
Earthquake Safety Tips
* Duck. Stay off heavy objects that may fall. Find an open area or stand in a doorway.
* If you can't get out of the building, seek protection under a heavy table.
* If you're driving when the earthquake strikes, stay inside your car.
* If you're in a mall or store, move away from shelving and other movable objects.
* In theaters and stadiums, duck under your seat and wait until the mob has largely left the area. Don't get caught up in the panic-filled crowds.
Another Word of Advice
Being well-prepared, having a plan of action, is the best way to prepare to survive an earthquake. Lacking this comfortable knowledge, you are more likely to panic and make deadly mistakes.
Know where strong, stable structures are that may provide shelter. Avoid areas of poor construction or materials. Stay calm. Stay alert. Things change very quickly, and you should be ready to respond.

LEEDS Certification Should Take Into Consideration Earthquake Costs to Rebuild
LEEDS Certification Should Take Into Consideration Earthquake Costs to Rebuild
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Winslow]Lance Winslow
More and more environmentally friendly green builders are joining the ranks of the socially responsible building industry. Great stuff, and why not build more energy efficient buildings, with materials that are made with the least pollution or impact to the environment? Sure, that all makes sense.
Even if you are not an environmentalist, you can obviously see the value of increased efficiency and less pollution, that's all well and good. Still, I've seen builders use less steel and concrete in their foundations by putting more rock underneath and such for the base. Okay, but the crushing of rock takes energy, machinery, fuel and has an impact during the transportation phase.
And even if you can justify that or call it an over decrease in pollution doing it that way, well what about this weaker foundation cracking during an earthquake causing the building to be a total loss? If the building is a total loss because it could not withstand a "biggie" earthquake, then you have to demolish it, haul away the debris, and rebuild it again. Thus, you built the same building twice.
Well, I ask doesn't that totally negate the entire reasoning behind the LEEDS certification? Further, we should be concerned that unions are joining in and pressing local, state and Federal Governments to require LEEDS certification for new buildings and lobbying politicians to give tax incentives. Personally, I believe that energy efficient building is wise, but if it is so good it doesn't need to be subsidized.
The free markets will choose LEEDS because tenants and building owners demand it to save on energy costs. And we need to temper the building materials with strength in Earthquake Risk regions, especially in California that is over do for an 8.0 otherwise we will completely defeat the purpose and theory behind LEEDS. Think on this.

Earthquake Insurance in California
Earthquake Insurance in California
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Elizabeth_Potts_Weinstein]Elizabeth Potts Weinstein
As the water began to drain from New Orleans in 2005, we learned that most of the homeowners in New Orleans did not have flood insurance, since they were supposedly in “low risk” areas. The over 60% of homeowners will need to depend upon their own savings, and limited federal assistance, to rebuild New Orleans – at an uncalculated cost for homeowners and taxpayers.
Could that level of disaster, especially that level of uninsured disaster, happen in California? Less than 15% of California homeowners currently carry earthquake insurance, due to its high cost, the “can’t happen to me or my house” factor, and mortgage providers not requiring coverage. The next big quake will result in billions of uninsured damage – but is earthquake insurance really worth the high cost?
How Did We Get Here?
The state of California requires that all homeowner’s insurance providers to at least offer earthquake insurance (albeit, at a high cost). Until 1994, it was widely available – but the high damage costs of the Northridge earthquake resulted in 97% of homeowner’s insurance providers pulling out of the state the California. In response, the California Earthquake Authority was formed by the California legislator to provide earthquake insurance.
What Is the California Earthquake Authority, and How Does It Work?
The California Earthquake Authority provides two-thirds of the earthquake policies in California, sold through their member providers, like Allstate and State Farm. A homeowner purchases the policy through their regular insurance agent, but the policy is actually a CEA policy.
The CEA currently has about $7.2 billion to pay claims, which it states is enough to pay foreseeable damages (Loma Prieta in 1989 had $6 billion in total damages). If the damage claims are more than $7.2 billion, then each claim would be paid a prorated portion of their losses – unlike a regular insurance company, which promises to pay the actual damages under the insurance policy. The state of California cannot help pay the claims out of general funds.
The policies also have a high deductible – usually 15% of the value of the dwelling. In other words, your home must be damaged more than 15% of its value before the insurance starts paying. So, this insurance is not for cracks in the driveway – it is for significant structural damage to your home. The policy also pays for limited contents (starting at $5K) and loss of use (starting at $1500).
Why Is Earthquake Insurance So Expensive?
Insurance policy premiums are calculated based on probabilities – the probability that a house like yours in a neighborhood like yours will catch fire, or a driver like you will have an accident. With data from millions of homes, these probabilities can be calculated with reasonable accuracy. But, no one can reliably predict the probability that there will be an earthquake strong enough to damage your home.
And, as you can imagine, damages from an earthquake, flood, or hurricane, are widespread, over potentially thousands of square miles – instead of one or a few dozen homes, as in a fire. As such, the insurer would have to pay either zero claims, or billions of dollars of claims – too much variance to reasonably plan for or price accurately.
Are We Really At Risk Here in San Jose?
According to the USGS, there is a 62% probability that there will be an earthquake of 6.7 or greater (like the Northridge quake) in the Bay Area in the next 30 years. In my zip code (San Jose 95126), USGS calculates a 80% chance of a 6.0 earthquake and a 20% chance of a 7.0, in the next 30 years. Whether you consider that to be a high risk depends on your risk tolerance for earthquakes – I consider that a high risk of a moderate earthquake and a somewhat low risk of a terrible earthquake, over the next 30 years.
But like any issue involving real estate – it is all local. Where your home is actually located significantly affects your risk – bedrock, reclaimed land from the bay, soil type, nearby streams, actual distance from the epicenter – all can affect potential damage.
But of course, many earthquakes occur where the USGS was not even aware of a fault line – and we never know when or where it will happen, until it happens.
Should I Obtain Earthquake Insurance?
Factors to Consider:
Could you afford to pay for the rebuilding your home from your own savings & investments?
Can you afford to pay the high cost of insurance, indefinitely?
Could make payments on your current mortgage and on a new loan to rebuild?
Can you mitigate your potential losses by bolting your roof to the walls and the walls to the foundation, for example?
What is your tolerance for the risk of an earthquake?
What is the risks of your current home construction (type, age, foundation)?
What are the risks of your specific location (soil type, distance to known faults)?
Are the Costs Worth It?
Let’s assume that you have a home that would cost $250K to rebuild, you will own the home for the next 30 years, and your earthquake premiums are $1200 per year. Over the next 30 years, that would be a total of $36,000 in premiums (assuming your premiums do not increase, to simplify calculations).
Instead of purchasing insurance, you invest the premiums in a diversified mutual fund. With an 8% annual return, you would have $135,000 (pre-tax) in year 30.* But of course, you only have that total in year 30, not in year one – meaning that if the earthquake happens tomorrow, you don’t have the money.
The deductible is another big turn off for many homeowners. The insurance pays only for large structural damage, not broken dishes or cracked driveways – meaning that it is less likely you will use it. However, be aware that you will not need to come up with the cash for the deductible – you may either opt to not undertake those repair or rebuilding costs, or you can apply for an SBA loan to pay for the deductible (assuming a federal disaster area is declared).
Why Not Just Get Federal Aid, or “Walk Away” and Let the Bank Have the Property?
The federal government would probably provide access to SBA loans, if the area is declared a federal disaster area (no small business required). However, the $200K maximum SBA loan may not be enough to rebuild your home – and, it is a loan that you need to pay back (in addition to your current mortgage).
If you have refinanced your mortgage, you have a recourse mortgage – which means that not only can the bank foreclose on the property in case of non-payment, the bank can also come after your personal assets and future income in case of non-payment. So you cannot just walk away, especially if you have a good income and some personal assets. The bank may help out by deferring payments for a few months, but you still must pay back the loan.

We have earthquake insurance on our home. Our home was not yet built in the 1906 earthquake (so who knows if it would stand), it is 75+ years old and is not bolted to the foundation, and we have a refinanced mortgage. For my family, the insurance premiums are worth peace of mind in case of a major earthquake disaster. That’s exactly what insurance is for – the “you never know.”

Insurance policy premiums are calculated based on probabilities – the probability that a house like yours in a neighborhood like yours will catch fire, or a driver like you will have an accident. California Earthquake - Psychic Prediction
California Earthquake - Psychic Prediction
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Barbara_Garcia]Barbara Garcia
Most of us who live in Southern California are aware that a major earthquake is bound to occur within the next 10 years. We look toward the scientist to inform and prepare us for those dreaded earth quake strikes.
I would rather not talk about the "big one" that has been expected to occur for decades because these sort of predictions tend to ignite deeper fears in our already fearful position in these earthquake ridden regions. We have heard and read about the big quake that is bound to happen so much that we have become desensitized.
There are dozens of meanings one can perceive from a psychic vision. This is why they need to be considered hypothetical in nature, worthy of study and reference but not taken as verifiable. However, psychic visions of an apocalyptic earthquake in southern California are being forecasted by reputable psychics much too often to ignore and remind people of the very real seismic dangers in the region.
Although I predicted a sizeable earthquake this year in my 2009 Psychic Predictions, the big one is about a year or two away. I keep seeing the year 2011 like a pulsating animation within visions of major earth shifts in my home state of California. Dates perceived in months or years could be argued to have limited value in forecasting a time because we psychics move our consciousness in large spans of time and cover broad areas of locations and events. On the other hand, the numbers 2011 is a significant part of the psychic vision.
Earthquake ridden fault zones are located throughout California but the areas in my vision are moving in the southern regions of California, from the outskirts of San Diego, the deserts, off shore Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The magnitude does not seem as significant as the amount of confusion in the collapse and destruction of buildings, structures, moving vehicles and machinery.
Earthquake preparedness may be mundane topic every year but how many of us are prepared? Contact the national CDC for information on how to survive in earthquakes and disasters, the more you educate yourself, the better prepared you become and you just might save the life of someone else as well.

The Ultimate Social Media Marketing Article to Build Your List
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Neil_Ashworth]Neil Ashworth
Getting customers to visit your site is the most important part of your online business building plan. You can have the best product on the planet, the most affordable offer in the universe or the galaxy's finest website but if nobody finds your site you'll be floating in cyberspace like a lost soul.
But how do you do this without spending a fortune?
The truth is there are several ways to drive traffic to your site by using both online and offline tactics but most if not all will cost money and for the inexperienced online entrepreneur the vast majority of your cash will fall through a great black hole and never be seen again.
So, here's a safe, no risk, high return, no cost way to dominate search engines and drive thousands if not millions of visitors to your site for free. It's called article submission and it works. So listen up, learn how to write good articles and then know where to submit them and how. Do this right and you can forget PPC for ever!
The best approach is to provide fun, entertaining and informative ezine articles.
Sounds easy? Well it is and it isn't.
Well written articles full of good content and useful information will also help to build your list if you're using a data capture system, as more subscribers will be attracted or intrigued by your well scripted copy. But the truth is articles (good articles) can generate traffic for any site and as any successful shop owner will tell you 'Traffic = Profit'.
Here's a few ideas to keep you on track when planning or producing articles for online submission;
If you're promoting a product or business opportunity, let the reader have a glimpse of what you have to offer next and give them just enough of a taste to wet their lips. But don't give it all away right there and then. Keep a little back and your customers will come looking for more.
It's important to remain relevant. Your readers will be left with a certain impression from reading the article and will expect your website to reflect the article and if it doesn't they'll leave as soon as they came.
Many maverick marketers and successful internet entrepreneurs have captured the importance of articles and built their entire online strategy through ongoing and regular article submission. Search engines value articles as they recognize that more and more people are heading towards the internet for their information needs.
It's that simple!
The importance of well written, information enriched and keyword packed articles cannot be overstated. Over 80% of website traffic comes from the left hand side of the page following a Google search and the vast majority of results found there by the search engines comes in the form of an article. 5 Reasons to Publish Your Own Ezine
5 Reasons to Publish Your Own Ezine
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kellie_D'Andrea]Kellie D'Andrea
What if you had the power to increase your marketing reach by thousands for a fraction of the expense of traditional direct mail? How about the ability to position yourself as an expert in your field simply by writing an article? This is what publishing an ezine can do for you in just a matter of weeks. An Ezine is just a fancy way of saying E-Newsletter and is one of the best marketing tools available to business owners today.
There are a dozen of reasons why an ezine can help build your business and drive profits, here are my top five:
1. An Ezine Helps You Position Yourself as an Expert in Your Field.
An ezine is a great medium for communicating to your clients and prospects. Through articles you establish yourself as an expert in the topics you write about and by supplying informative and great content, you can create a loyal base of readers who are all potential clients. You create credibility, expertise and trust with each article by showing your readers what you know, how much you know about that topic and providing them with insight into you as an individual.
By showcasing your knowledge and expertise, not only will you attract more clients, but you will also attract other media attention resulting in your articles being published in other ezines, directories, newspapers and magazines and overall, increasing your reach beyond your current client list. If your content is good, people will want to read more from you and will find out how to subscribe to your list to get it.
2. An Ezine Provides You a Very Effective Way to Promote Your Business and to Stay in Touch with Your Customers and Prospects.
Staying in touch with your customers is one of the most important techniques in retaining customers. You need to remind them that you are still around and that you still have a valuable product and/or service to offer. An ezine provides you with another way to reach out with very little effort. It is noninvasive and contains valuable resources with great articles and recommendations that your customers will begin to look forward to. It is great way to keep them informed of what you have been up to and what your plans are to move the business further. Do anything to stay out in front of your competition and in front of your customers at all times.
3. An Ezine Provides You with a Method to Grow Your Customer and Reader List to Market and Sell Your Products to Over and Over Again.
The most effective way to build your business is through creating relationship and recurring revenue. One of the biggest assets a business has is their client and prospecting list. People buy from people who they like and trust. Not only will they buy from you once, if you are providing true value in your product and/or service, they will buy from you again and again. They will become your greatest cheerleaders and sales people by promoting you and your business to everyone they know, forwarding your articles and providing you with an opportunity to start the list building process over to your new audience. The greatest thing about an ezine is that you can stop marketing one to one and begin marketing to hundreds, thousands or even millions at once. Law of averages, if you increase your reach in terms of numbers, chances are you will increase your conversion to sales.
4. An Ezine Allows You to Grow Your Business Outside Your Market and Allows Your to Spread the Word About Your Product.
The World Wide Web has had a tremendous impact on the way business is conducted today. It has provided opportunities for the little guy to play in the same ocean as the big fish. The internet has provided boundless opportunities to expand your reach and to evolve your business beyond your local radius and beyond your four walls.
A reader of my ezine brought an opportunity to me to expand my ice cream store into a mobile cart business located into the city. Another reader forwarded my ezine to a friend who happened to own an internet gift service business. This individual contacted me and together we created a website where customers could order ice cream cakes for kids away at college, business associates or family members.
An ezine is the catalyst for growth. Once you connect with your readers, the connection keeps on growing and your list continues to build and your reach will go far beyond your wildest dreams.
5. An Ezine is Inexpensive and Easy to Publish.
Most likely you are using traditional marketing methods to spread the word about your company including direct mail campaigns. Maybe you are sending out postcards, newsletters or product announcements and go through the process of designing your piece, creating and verifying your addresses, creating labels, stuffing envelopes and bringing to the post office for delivery.
After your campaign is said and done, you have spent a lot of money on design and postage and no way to verify receipt. In some markets this is a very effective marketing technique but with the onset of e-mail marketing, there is a less expensive way to accomplish the same goal and verify receipt. Email marketing allows you to consolidate your marketing for a fraction of the cost of traditional direct mail methods and gets the word out faster. In addition, with the fancy systems out there geared towards the novice but created to capture data, you will have a complete understanding of your delivery rates and even can easily measure and track who opened your email, who forwarded your email and who bought from your email.

Ezine Advertising Doesn't Work - Really?
Ezine Advertising Doesn't Work - Really?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adrian_Jock]Adrian Jock
Some newbies noticed (or just heard many internet marketers talking) that article marketing is a powerful way of getting free traffic to their websites. And these newbies suddenly started writing ezine articles, irrespective of their knowledge (or lack of knowledge) of the topic they were writing about. Unfortunately, most of the article directories editors are not experts in their niche, but only in their directory publishing guidelines. What's the result? Many articles flood the market, but their quality is not always as expected.
Let's explore the ezine advertising niche and see what readers may "learn" from some writers. "If it is on the Internet, it must be true ..." is a common wrong conclusion. Some readers learn quickly a weird tip, spread it fast to friends or colleagues, more and more people apply the tip until ... everything explodes and then people cry angrily, "Ezine advertising doesn't work!"
Let's skip the articles about "enzines" (their writers don't even know the correct spelling). Let's skip the articles that don't have any purpose other than repeating "solo ads" in each sentence only for the sake of trying to rank well in search engines even if the article doesn't have a clear meaning. Let's read some tips, so called tips ...
So Called Tip # 1 - "Tell in the solo ads the story about how you went from nothing to becoming an expert."
Facts: Successful people usually are busy developing their business and they rarely read articles. Most of the readers of an article are not experts but newbies or average persons who spend their time hoping to discover something new or a solution to their problems.
Conclusion: As a matter of fact, the tip teaches you to lie ... This is a no-no in advertising. Unfortunately this tip is very much used by newbies. I've seen so many ezine ads telling readers how much money the advertiser earned last month by promoting a certain program, but if you ask the advertiser when she/he joined that program you will be surprised by the answer, "A few days ago, why do you ask?"
So Called Tip # 2 - "People want stories and they want stories about YOU."
A funny piece of advice related to the first tip: Actually, the truth is that people do NOT care about you unless you're a famous person. People care about them. Tell them a story about you only if you want to fail. If you want to succeed, tell them how THEIR life can be improved and THEIR problems can be solved.
So Called Tip # 3 - "Before placing an order, ask the ezine publisher these questions ..."
It's very good to contact the publisher before placing the order, but when an experienced ezine advertiser reads the questions the readers of some articles are taught to ask, she/he can only laugh. Here is an example of such question: "How many subscribers does your ezine have?"
Let me give you some practical information taken from real life. If the ezine publisher is professional, then the ezine has its own website, the page containing the advertising packages is easy to be found and contains at least two important pieces of information: the number of subscribers and the prices. If you don't find such information, you're not supposed to ask the publisher about them ... but to run away. You don't want to advertise in ezines published by amateurs.
There are many other so called ezine advertising tips but I didn't plan to write a novel here ... However, I think you already got the point: don't consider any piece of advice or article as a law that has to be applied. Be a smart ezine advertiser: after reading a certain tip, put yourself in the shoes of the reader who is supposed to read the ezine ad written following that tip.

Entrepreneur Bootstrapping Business Idea - Become an Ezine Publisher For Big Profits
Entrepreneur Bootstrapping Business Idea - Become an Ezine Publisher For Big Profits
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joshua_Black]Joshua Black
Publishing an on-line newsletter or ezine can be a very profitable venture if our niche is correct and you have a large enough customer base to support it. Find out more on how to get rich with your own ezine.
You can make money by publishing a newsletter from multiple different ways. You can sell advertising, charge for a subscription, sell your own back-end products to the list of your free ezine, or combine all 3 methods.
A successful ezine will be very targeted to a specific niche market. People love to read about their favorite hobby or interest, and if you can pinpoint a niche that is big enough to support your business then you could have a winner.
In order to be successful you have to have unique content that the customer cannot get from anywhere else. You have to know the customer very well so that you can provide him/her with exactly what they want. You create content every month or every week that will make people want to come back for more.
Once you know your customer, you can also post ads on the ezine that are very targeted to the list. You will be able to charge a rate that is related to how many people are on the list and how valuable their niche is. You can also create your own empire, where you only promote your own products and then you keep all the money.
Coming up with new content constantly can be a difficult task. You need to love writing and research. If you are not knee-deep passionate about the subject of your ezine, then don't bother starting it. That lack of passion will show up in your writing and your cancellation rates will be high. You want your readers to be just as excited as you are and you want that to show through in your writing.

E-Zines and Newsletters to Success
E-Zines and Newsletters to Success
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ward_Tipton]Ward Tipton
Some people define e-zines and newsletters as being the same, while others define them differently and as separate items. Whether the same or different, in the online realm, e-zines and newsletters are generated by a producer or publisher and mass emailed to a large group of readers; whether from a personalized listing or a generic mailing.
If there is a discernible difference, it could be that e-zines are usually also published online in a more open format. This means that the same information that is included in the e-zine is also published on a web page or pages in order to facilitate increased traffic to a web site. An e-zine will also frequently include article openings and then link to the corresponding web site to allow the reader to view the entire article.
A newsletter is usually a mass mailing designed to inform a specific group about current events and happenings whether they are directly related to the web site or not. This is sometimes used as a means for generating traffic, but more often is only used to update certain people about relevant events and information.
For the sake of this section, we shall refer to both the e-zine and the newsletters as newsletters. While the practical applications may be slightly different, they are similar enough to include together in one general heading. General advice, hints, tips and tricks of the trade can be used equally well for both concepts.
The newsletter is a very good idea for keeping up with any number of groups of people. This could include people, who have purchased the web publisher's products in the past, who are registered members or active participants in a web page, or a blog, who have shown an interest in a certain concept or idea that is promoted, enhanced or otherwise directly influenced as a result of the products that are for sale. By selectively placing ads in the newsletters, sales opportunities will be greatly enhanced.
Newsletters are a great means for keeping up with people who have previously purchased your products. Having them opt-in to receive more information about new products is great, but most people will un-check that option wherever they can. Offering them a newsletter that has material included, usually free, will soften up even the hardest sale and allow the web publisher to still keep in touch, and maybe make more sales.
While this person may or may not be interested in every new product that comes out, they will undoubtedly be interested in some. By giving them a newsletter with relevant information, you will not only keep in touch with them, but by selectively placing ads within the newsletter, you can create an opportunity to increase sales and profits.
It is very common to have a group of people who are actively involved with a web site. Sometimes this can be a group of contributors. Quite often it will be people who comment on a blog site. Whatever the reason these people are together, they have something in common. This creates a targeted market that can and should be utilized for product promotion. As with any web site, information that is interesting, timely and relevant to the commonality of this group should be provided. While it is true that some effort will be required on your part, this is a very effective tool.
A newsletter will require work. It will require the publisher to commit time, energy and effort. A sense of responsibility will be needed. Time management skills are very important. Making sure that the writing is relevant to the subject at hand will be a key factor in maintaining and building up a larger readership. Just because the information is not posted on the web page does not mean that it is not important.
The newsletter should be a key part of a marketing campaign. The professional appearance of the newsletter will reflect directly on the publisher. As with the web page, if the material is not what people expect, they probably will not be subscribing for long. Even more importantly, they will probably not be buying any products or services from you.

Orvieto in Umbria - Italy's Green Heart - Ten Tips to Jump Start Your Visit
Orvieto in Umbria - Italy's Green Heart - Ten Tips to Jump Start Your Visit
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Rex_Bush]Rex Bush
Orvieto in scenic Umbria abounds in things to do and places to see. Here are ten suggestions to get you started.
1. Visit The Duomo
If you are into attractive Gothic cathedrals Orvieto is the place for you. Its Duomo (main cathedral) took over three hundred years to build and the painstaking effort paid off big as it is now world-renowned as an example of medieval Italian Gothic architecture.
2. Pay Your Respects To The Etruscan Dead
There are at least two Etruscan necropli (fancy word for ancient graveyard) where you can practice your Etruscan by reading the names above the doorframes of the burial chambers.
3. Find Out What Etruscans Really Looked Like
Want to see what a real Etruscan looked like? Check out the Museum of the Opera del Duomo where a typical Etruscan citizen is depicted in a well preserved fresco.
4. Examine An Etruscan Well
I don't know if Etruscan wells are different from modern ones but you can decide for yourself while viewing the Pozzo (Italian for "well.")
5. Overcome Your Fear Of Heights
The train will drop you in the plain below the city and unless you are acrophobic ("acrophobia" is fear of heights) you'll enjoy the ride up the funicular to the old city.
6. Visit A Famous Fortress
The Fortress of Albornoz (also known as "la rocca" which means "the rock")was built for Pope Innocent VI at the request of a Spanish cardinal named Albornoz.
7. Visit The Underground City
Like many Italian cities this one has a complex network of underground tunnels and passageways that you can visit on a guided tour.
8. Gaze On A Dodecagon
A dodecagon is a twelve-sided figure, and you'll find one in Orvieto at Sant' Andrea Church on Piazza Republica, in the form of a twelve-sided bell tower.
9. Sample Truffles (Not The Chocolate Kind)
If you like rare fungus Umbria is the place for you as here you will find some of Europe's finest truffles of both the black and the rarer white variety.
Truffles are potato shaped mushrooms that grow in the ground near the roots of deciduous trees. Some say they have a mild garlic-like flavor.
10. Enjoy Some Of Italy's Best Cuisine
In addition to white and black truffles, Umbria boasts specialty cheeses made of sheep's milk, variously flavored with walnuts, local wine, black pepper and hot peppers.
Fresh carp, trout, perch and eel from nearby Lake Trasimeno have also made a splash in local cuisine.
There is no clear consensus on the best local restaurant but rave reviews abound on the Internet for "Il Sette Consoli" which has been described by its fans as "memorable" "wonderful" and "my most memorable lunch in Italy".
Also popular: Osteria San Patrizio
Conclusion
There you have it: ten tips to jump start your tour. Along the way I'm sure you'll find other treasures worth inspecting and enjoying. Have fun!

Fear of Heights - Self Hypnosis For Heights Fears
Fear of Heights - Self Hypnosis For Heights Fears
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=J_Seymour]J Seymour
Phobia of heights is technically known as acrophobia. Many people experience fear of heights but not everyone develops a phobia. In order to assure that your fright doesn't escalate into phobia, it is necessary to address your negative emotions on a subconscious level.
The first step is to determine how severe your phobia of heights really is. You may have the natural response of fear when faced with heights that lead to feelings of panic. As the condition progresses, you begin to avoid any situation that may involve high places.
Persistent thoughts of falling overwhelm you and you feel great anxiety on a regular basis. Gradually, you avoid leaving your home for fear of having a panic attack. The phobia of heights interferes with your daily life.
Experiences
Traditionally, phobia of heights was attributed to negative experiences early in life. You may have had a narrow escape from a significant fall or some other unpleasant experience as a young child. You may have seen someone else fall from a high place. The basic belief was that conditioning was a factor in the development of this fear.
Non-Associative Fears
Fear of heights is now understood to be a non-associative fear. This type of fear is inborn as a naturally protective mechanism. We naturally feel negative emotions about high places and loud noises whether exposed to a traumatic event or not.
This natural fear can run wild in the psyche, developing into a phobia. This is when acrophobia enters you life, leaving you with excessive feelings of anxiety and panic. You may instinctively have fears of falling but these emotions become too much for you to handle.
Imbalance
People process motion and their positioning using various systems in the human body. For example, the proprioceptive system helps you maintain comfortable body positioning. The vestibular system helps you process motion. Some people may have an imbalance in the systems that can be the root of their fears.
The fear of heights may be biological or environmental but in either case, it is controllable.
Getting Help for Phobia of Heights
You may think that an instinctive reaction is beyond your control you can take control of your fear of heights with the right intervention. Self-hypnosis is ideal because it works to help you overcome thoughts that work on a subconscious level.
It is impossible to control every thought that comes into your head. Your mind can have tens of thousands of thoughts each day. The notion of consciously taking the reins on your thought processes is not going to yield great results. However, your subconscious mind can control thoughts and responses to situations automatically.

Skin Parasites that Cause Itchy Disruptive Skin
Skin Parasites that Cause Itchy Disruptive Skin
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Kuhns]Richard Kuhns
It's 3:00 am, your sleep has been interrupted by something crawling on your face, legs, private parts-and you don't know what to do. First you wonder if it's your imagination, but then the crawling feelings are accompanied by a biting, stinging sensation--sometimes it seems to be from under your skin. You get out of bed, turn on a light and take a look to see what's causing the problem. You see nothing. Hoping for relief you scratch it. Moments later, the biting returns and it's relentless. The next day you may find a rash developing or what appears like bites on your skin.
The only evidence of something going on is that you might find a gritty sandy like substance-black specs-in your bedding or some strange fibers developing on your skin or or tiny sparkly specs of light reflecting sunlight on your arms.
In some cases, it looks like a mosquito bite or the beginnings of a zit but it never goes away. In fact it multiplies in a short period of time.
What's causing the biting, rashes, lesions, and what do you do about it? First you try some over the counter remedy such as Benadryl or Gold Bond medicated powder and there's no benefit. Then you go to your doctor expecting a prescription for a skin cream to quickly eliminate the problem. Your doctor examines you and can't find anything wrong except that he accuses you of scratching your skin causing it to inflame. You might convince him to prescribe something like Quill or Elimite and it works for a few days and then it's back to the hell of itching and biting. Eventually your doctor may take a biopsy (plug sample) and you're looking forward to finally identifying the causative agent. The test comes back negative and eventually your doctor suggests to you that it's stress, in your imagination, anxiety, general nervousness, Rosacea's Red Face, or worse yet that you have acrophobia.
Actually, you've may have been invaded by one of several strains of skin parasites. While most skin parasites are harmless, there are some skin parasites such as Morgellons (of unknown origin), unknown to most doctors, that can make life a living hell.
Job, of the Old Testament in the Holy Bible, may very well have been the first human on record who suffered from these skin parasites which are in the form of skin mites, nematodes, collembola and or skin fungus.
Some species of parasites that usually live outdoor on plants and animals can adapt to living both in human skin and bring protozoan, bacterium, and fungi organisms that live systemically (in the blood). Without guidance in an effective treatment the parasites can reside in one's skin for years and make scabies (a form of mite) look like the common cold.
To further complicate life, this skin problem can be easily transmitted from animal or human to human by simple contact, i.e., beauty parlor, lying down on an infested couch or rug, trying on new clothing in a store that was tried on by someone who was infested....
My hell started from a cloud of dust that descended upon me after I pulled a strangulating vine from a tree in my back yard so the medical specialist I consulted couldn't pull that acrophobia stuff on me. Early on I experimented with garlic. I tried other things like curry, but garlic was the ticket. I started with 30,000 mg. of garlic per day and ended up at around 240,000 mg. per day before I freed myself of the parasitic itchy bity symptoms. For me, garlic completely tamed down the symptoms of the itchy parasites to where I could be human. Of course I tried many different medications during this time and each time I went off garlic to see if the medication or remedy was working, it would flare up again because none were working. Eventually garlic lost its magic and it was back to itching hell.
Fortunately shortly thereafter, I discovered the value of the diet which is called the Parasite-Lyme DietSM. In fact I'm convinced that no treatment will work without getting on the eating diet and staying on it. There are foods such as fruits and many carbohydrates that feed the parasites and foods that starve them. I started it as an elimination diet--ate only eggs initially and within a few days I was itch and bite free--it worked that fast for me. It took over ten years to discover all the nuances of the diet so I could enjoy foods like shrimp scampi, chicken in butter sauce...
It's a three stage diet, the first of which is very strict. As stage I is successful, one can often advance to Stage II within a week or so and eat more leniently. It didn't take long to think I was cured, but every time I went off the diet for a week or so, the itching and biting returned. In time with certain medications, I could advance to Stage III of the diet and enjoy limited types of fruit, honey, chocolate cake...
I wrote an e-book entitled Soothing the Itch Within and the Diet to Control It which provides medical, bathing, and disinfection protocols which got me and dozens of other sufferers symptom free.
Additionally the e-book and the diet is valuable for and addresses the complications of Lyme and Protozoan infection that often accompany parasitic infection.
