Are you a pretty good handicapper? Can you pick more winners than losers? If you can, you probably make a profit - even if it's a small profit - at the dog track. This isn't easy, and I congratulate you on your success. But I also have a question for you.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could pick more winners and make more money at the dog track? Do you think that would be great, except that you've gone about as far as you can go with the handicapping skills you have? Well, that's a self-defeating attitude and you shouldn't let it keep you from building on the skills you have to get better at winning money.

You might have learned your basic handicapping skills from a friend, from trial and error or from a book or system that you bought. This is how most people learn the basics. Then there are some of us who learn the hard way by using the "do it yourself" method over many years. I don't recommend this method, because it wastes time and money.

My opinion is that the best way to get better at handicapping is to start with a good, basic foundation. Get a good book or system that teaches the basic handicapping skills everyone needs to know. Then, build on that foundation by continuing to learn everything you can about the art of greyhound handicapping.

The best handicappers are the best because they never stop learning new things. Just because they can pick enough winners to make a profit, they don't rest on their laurels. They're constantly searching out new knowledge, talking to other handicappers and looking for new angles to exploit.

If your handicapping technique hasn't changed in years, maybe it's time to try something new. Talk to other people who handicap races. Search for new techniques and systems of picking dogs. Don't close yourself off to different ways of doing things. Be open and willing to try something new and you just might find yourself cashing more winning tickets.
